Prelude
–Piya Basanti Re album was released in 2000 when I was in 7th
standard . Though the song Piya Basanti Re of the album created ripples throughout our
music-loving nation , I didn’t realize how much of a great album composer
Sandesh Shandilya had created, until my early twenties . The whole album is a
treat to music lovers who want to go to the mountains and hear the ballad of
the wind. Ustad Sultan Khan’s rustic vocals and the placid voice of KS Chitra
take me to the untold mysteries of the gust of wind . The song Sawan Rut Ayi
celebrates the season of monsoon and the love brought by the rain drops .
Sawan
rut ayi dekho balam
Look
my beloved ! The season of monsoon has come
Kare
kare badra jiya tarsaye
The
dark clouds make my heart long for my beloved.
Chali
hai purwayi dekho balam
Look
my beloved ! The eastern wind is blowing.
Patton
pe pani ki cham cham chede jiya sargam
The
tinkling raindrops falling on the leaves produce musical notes in my heart
Indradhanush
ban gaye do bahein
My two arms have become a rainbow
Aayi
hain angdayi dekho balam
Look
my beloved ! I am stretching my arms in a dreamy state , waiting for you.
Satranga
akash ka aangan
The
courtyard of the sky is seven hued
Laaj
main jiyun dulhan
The
bride lives in shyness.
Mujh
main gunji preet ke jaise ek shehnai dekho balam
Look
my beloved ! The love echoing within me sounds like a shehnai ( a wind instrument played during weddings ) .
Postlude
– The season of monsoon has allured poets and lyricists for a long time. Nature starts playing a symphony with the onset of monsoon . The rumbling of
the clouds and the dripping sound of the water drops from leaves set nature into a jamming session . Sawan Rut Ayi takes us through the longing of
the new bride waiting for her husband after he had gone out to trade for many months.
